As a Los Angeles born and often documentary artist, I have noticed with alarming frequency, the number of beautiful or even iconic buildings that are being torn down or repurposed in the LA area. Saddened by these events, I photograph these often neglected gems before they pass into obscurity in an attempt to pay homage to their glory before the bulldozer and memory erase them from our consciousness. In LA Icons, each building or detail of a building has been stripped of all extraneous elements in order to allow the viewer to focus on the building itself, as if the building is floating on its own cloud of future memory. This work exemplifies a past that has not found its way into the future - a past left behind, but still occupying space. Lonely, yet beautiful: present but unfulfilled: waiting to be taken on a journey not yet defined. (Archivally printed on hand made paper to emulate the fading aspect of the work)
